The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing to mark the 10th International Yoga Day on June 21 with grand celebrations across the state. A special Yoga Week will be observed from June 15 to 21, culminating in mass yoga sessions at 4,075 locations statewide.
To ensure smooth execution, the state has trained 5,000 yoga instructors who will lead sessions from villages to urban centers, promoting yoga as a way of life. In a major step to institutionalise the practice, the government has also announced plans to develop 1,000 yoga parks.
Districts with divisional headquarters will see the construction of three parks each, while other districts will receive two, with support from the Urban Development Department, local bodies, and panchayats.
The celebrations will include group yoga sessions at the district, tehsil, block, and gram panchayat levels. A range of community engagement activities—seminars, workshops, speeches, essay writing, rangoli, and slogan competitions—will also be organised to involve people from school students to the general public.
In an effort to link yoga with environmental consciousness, the program will include cleanliness and plantation drives near Amrit Sarovars, rivers, lakes, and public parks. This dual approach aims to promote both physical and mental well-being, as well as environmental sensitivity.
Citizens will be encouraged to upload photos of their individual and group yoga sessions on the Government of India’s MyGov portal. Additionally, yoga experts will appear on Doordarshan and other TV platforms to provide guidance on using yoga for disease prevention and holistic health.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasised the deeper value of yoga, calling it a comprehensive lifestyle that brings balance to the body, mind, and soul. “Yoga is more than exercise—it’s a way to build peace and harmony in society,” he said.
