The Uttar Pradesh government is set to introduce the secondary education curriculum in Madrasas to improve the quality of education. Starting in the 2025-26 academic year, Maulvi/Munshi (secondary level) and Alim (senior secondary level) students will follow this curriculum.

Teachers are being identified to teach subjects like mathematics, science, social science, Hindi, and English, alongside religious subjects such as theology, Arabic, and Persian. Currently, there are 13,329 recognised Madrasas in the state with 1,235,400 students. These include 9,979 primary and upper primary (classes 1-8) and 3,350 secondary and higher secondary (classes 9-12) Madrasas.

The Yogi government has been actively working to improve the quality of education in Madrasas. Initiatives like the Madrasa portal have been introduced for examinations, certifications, verification, and integration with the U-DISE code to ensure transparency and accountability.

The NCERT curriculum has been implemented for classes 1-3, while the SCERT curriculum is being used for classes 4-8. Madrasa students are also provided with books from the Basic Education Council.

The secondary education curriculum has now been implemented for classes 9-12. According to RP Singh, Registrar of the Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Education Council, the curriculum changes necessitate qualified teachers. Efforts are underway to identify and recruit teachers for vacant positions.
