The Uttar Pradesh government will organise a month-long campaign to promote the use of solar energy in Lucknow and Varanasi from October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The campaign, called ‘Har Ghar Solar Abhiyan’, aims to achieve the target of 6,000 megawatts of solar rooftop plant installations.

The main objective of the campaign is to increase the usage of renewable energy in both residential and commercial sectors and to achieve the target set by the state government under the Solar Energy Policy 2022 of the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA).

The first boot camp under the campaign will be held at Vikas Bhawan in Lucknow and near the Municipal Corporation office in Varanasi, where residential and commercial consumers, as well as officers and employees of various departments, will participate. The participants will also receive information about the application process and installation of solar rooftop systems and net meters.

UPNEDA Director Anupam Shukla said that the campaign is organised in the interest of consumers and will help them save on electricity bills and reduce carbon emissions. He said that more details regarding the application process and installation of the net meter will be provided soon.
