IIT Kanpur is set to develop indigenous technology for an AI-driven smart electric vehicle (EV) charger and a smart hybrid inverter. The institute has signed an agreement with Kanpur-based company Mars(India) Antennas and RF System Private Limited to collaborate on the design, manufacturing, and testing of these advanced technologies.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by IIT Kanpur’s Dean of Research and Development, Prof Tarun Kumar Gupta, and Arvind Kumar Pilania, CEO of Mars(India) Antennas, reported ANI. Under this partnership, a team led by Dr Amarendra Edapuganti, Principal Investigator from the Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering, will work on the project.
The AI-powered smart EV charger will allow multiple vehicles to charge simultaneously without straining the power grid. Additionally, the smart hybrid inverter will efficiently utiliSe both solar and electrical energy to enhance energy conservation.
IIT Kanpur Director Prof Manindra Agarwal highlighted that this initiative aligns with the National Manufacturing Mission, as outlined in the recent Union Budget. The mission aims to boost domestic value addition and strengthen India's clean technology ecosystem, focusing on solar PV cells, EV batteries, high-voltage transmission equipment, and more.
