The UP government is set to make over 3 crore women economically self-reliant by connecting them with self-help groups. Under this initiative, work has begun on an action plan to help 1 crore women become ‘Lakhpati Didis’ within one year.
The aim is for women not only to be beneficiaries but also to become partners in economic progress. Under this scheme, rural women will be provided with opportunities for sustainable income through agricultural and non-agricultural livelihood models. The government is set to connect rural women with self-help groups through the State Rural Livelihood Mission (UPSRLM).
Trained teams will conduct door-to-door visits to link women with livelihood opportunities. In addition to training in agriculture, animal husbandry, dairy, handicrafts, food processing, micro-industries and the service sector, women are also being provided with immediate capital assistance and market support.
Officials have been instructed to implement the Lakhpati Didi scheme for women in mission mode, so that they not only take up self-employment but also become job creators. For this, arrangements are being made across four levels: training, technology, market, and finance.
