In a startling incident, a 20-year-old man was tied to a pole and set on fire over a dispute over prayers in a mosque in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun.

According to a report by NDTV, the incident took place in the Sahaswan area on Friday morning after an argument between the victim, Mehboob, and the accused the day before.

According to the police, the dispute started on Thursday when Mehboob and three other men from Mustafabad in Islamnagar Nagar Panchayat engaged in a heated argument over where to offer prayers inside the mosque.

However, other people present in the mosque intervened and got the dispute settled. For early Friday prayers, Mehboob returned the next day to the mosque, and the argument resumed and took a violent turn.

When Mehboob left the mosque, three men obstructed him, tied him to a pole and poured petrol. They set him ablaze. However, the rope burnt early, making way for Mehboob to free himself and run with severe injuries.

He reached home, from where his family took him to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Rudayan.

He was in stable condition after he was later referred to Aligarh. The police received the call about the incident on 112 and have started the investigation.
