Three people have died and seven others sustained burns, one critically, after lightning struck farmers, their families, and laborers transplanting paddy in various villages of Pipraich and Chaurichaura in Uttar Pradesh. A rain alert has been issued for Uttar Pradesh until June 27, with cloud movement observed across western UP since this morning.

Rain accompanied by thunderstorms has brought relief from the scorching heat in several areas. The weather has also shifted in Uttar Pradesh’s capital, Lucknow, where a rain alert remains in effect for the coming week. Heavy rainfall is expected in many districts across the state.

UP Villages Witnessed Lightning Deaths 

In Agaya village:
At around 8 am, Navminath Sharma (46) of Agaya Chhota Tola, Pipraich police station area, was running water for paddy transplantation using a pumping set when a sudden, powerful lightning strike severely injured him. His wife Manju, son Suraj, and neighbor Rakesh Sharma narrowly escaped harm. Navminath was rushed to CHC Pipraich but was declared dead by the doctors.

In Bela Kanta village:
Vehicle mechanic Rakesh Paswan (35) and his 10-year-old daughter Ananya were struck by lightning while sitting near a culvert during a walk. Rakesh succumbed to his injuries, while Ananya was admitted to CHC Pipraich for treatment.

In Karmaini village:
At 10 am, lightning struck Sabir Ali, his granddaughter Nagma, and daughter-in-law Rahin Nisha as they were transplanting paddy. Several other laborers working nearby narrowly escaped. All three victims were admitted to CHC Pipraich with serious burns.

In Phulwaria village, Chaurichaura police station area:
Usman (50) died instantly after being struck by lightning while heading to plant paddy with Sunita Devi (35) and Kamlavati (50). Sunita was hospitalized at CHC, while Kamlavati sustained minor injuries.

IMD Issued Rain And Thunderstorm Alert In UP Villages 

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, a rain and thunderstorm alert has been issued for Lakhimpur Kheri, Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, and Bijnor. Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected in Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Jalaun, and Hamirpur, where residents have been advised to exercise caution due to the risk of lightning.

Heavy rain is also likely in Mahoba, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, and Prayagraj. Fatehpur, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, and Varanasi may experience heavy rainfall as well. Rain is expected in Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur, Kanpur, Saharanpur, Shamli, and Muzaffarnagar. Torrential rain could occur across Baghpat, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Hapur, and Noida.
