A 30-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy, who had been in a relationship for about three months, were arrested in connection with the murder of a six-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras, according to police. The victim, Urvi, went missing around 10 a.m. on Wednesday from her home, where a function was being held.
Around 1:30 pm, her body was found inside a well, stuffed in a jute bag with a cloth tied around her neck. The post-mortem report confirmed that she died by strangulation.
"The girl had seen the arrested woman and the minor in a compromising position. The girl threatened to tell her father, and as she was leaving, the two strangled her to death," Additional Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Singh said.
On the day of the incident, with her husband and mother-in-law away, she had invited the boy over. At the time of her arrest, the woman had bite marks on her hand, likely inflicted by the girl during her struggle to escape, he added.
"The girl walked in on them and, despite being warned, said she would tell her father. The two then killed her, stuffed her body in a sack, and threw it in an abandoned well," the officer said.
In a separate incident, a private hospital in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, Avon Hospital, was sealed on the orders of District Magistrate Avinash Singh after gross medical negligence came to light. An FIR was registered against the hospital’s operator, Shahbaz, and unidentified doctors after it was found that a cloth had been left inside a woman’s uterus during a delivery operation.
Tahir Khan reported that his wife, Noor Jahan, underwent a C-section at Avon Hospital on June 3, during which their baby did not survive. Though she was discharged after five days, she continued to suffer severe abdominal pain, later developing pus in her stitches. Diagnostic tests revealed a cloth had been left inside her uterus, causing a serious infection. Noor Jahan’s life was saved at another hospital following corrective surgery.
