Commuters and pilgrims travelling through Brijghat will soon get major relief from the severe traffic jams that occur on Amavasya, Purnima and weekends. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved the construction of a new bypass in the pilgrimage town following a request from Garhmukteshwar-Amroha MP Kanwar Singh Tanwar.

Brijghat, being developed as a ‘mini Haridwar’, attracts thousands of devotees daily for a holy dip in the Ganga. The footfall surges to lakhs on auspicious days, leading to massive congestion between Garhmukteshwar and Brijghat. Even short-distance travel often becomes difficult.

MP Kanwar Singh Tanwar said that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has given the go-ahead for the project, and construction is expected to begin in January.

A bypass is already under construction on the Meerut-Garhmukteshwar route, stretching from Dautai village to Allabakhshpur. The earlier plan was to divert traffic back onto the Delhi-Lucknow highway from there, but this would have created a bottleneck and failed to address congestion. The approval of the new bypass is expected to significantly ease traffic pressure and benefit the large number of devotees visiting the town.
