A goods train going from Kanpur to Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya Junction derailed on the Niranjan bridge in the yard of Prayagraj Junction. The accident took place on Wednesday at around 3:07 PM on the Delhi-Howrah railway route.

Three wagons of the goods train (total 16 wheels) got derailed.

Following the incident, the down line was cleared after three hours of hard work. Currently, trains will be moved slowly on the down track. The three derailed wagons were taken to the yard through the loop line.

Train operations resumed on Varanasi, Lucknow and Pratapgarh routes. Following the accident, several train services were affected.

Trains were halted at various routes after the information was received from the control room. Notably, around six rail lines pass through the accident site.

Among these, the Delhi-Howrah route up-down line was completely disrupted. Train operations on Prayagraj-Varanasi rail route also halted. The technical team and railway officials immediately reached the spot after the accident and began the restoration work.

Around 4:00 PM the derailed wagons were separated by cutting them with the help of gas kits. One part was moved towards Chivki and the other part towards Prayagraj Junction.

Around 5 PM, Gorakhpur Vande Bharat was sent to the junction via another line. People began going home after getting off from trains that had halted near the event site.

Amit Kumar Singh, PRO of North Central Railway's Prayagraj division, stated that as soon as the information was received about the accident, rescue teams arrived on the scene. "Our primary goal was to clear the route as soon as feasible," he said.
