UP News: The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) on Sunday decided to cut the electricity supply of 50 villages after 98 per cent of the consumers failed to pay the bills on time. The UPPCL stated that the villagers did not pay the bills even after the corporation did send multiple notices over the past few months.
Though the corporation distributed the electricity in these villages under the ambitious 'Saubhagya Sceme', it is not able to collect the bill on time even after sending multiple notices. The corporation informed that a total of Rs 45 crore was due in these 50 villages. It further stated that they held multiple camps to help the villagers, but they did not participate. The villagers are not even showing interest in the schemes associated with the payment of the due, UPPCL stated.

However, the villagers are facing several domestic and commercial issues because of this action from the corporation. The action has also affected the people who have already deposited their bills. The corporation staff went to the villages near Thathiya and Kareda Patti and cut the electricity supply. They stated that the villagers were not even registering for the OTS scheme, designed to help them out.
Several villages, including Malgai, Gurauli, Harijanpurva, Rudhiya, Makkpurva, Jaitapur, Jasapurwa, Jawaharpurwa, Hirapurwa, Fatuapur, Bahsora, Mahanandpurwa, Srinagar, Ramnagar, Rura, Nistauli, Shyampur, Bilandapur, Sikhwapur, Majhpurwa, Kissapurwa, Garhiya, Mahabalipururwa, Harouli, Mannapurwa, Achankapur, Bhataura, Badlepurwa, Nayapurva, Chingharuapur, and Bangariapur, faced the power outage because of not paying the bills.
Earlier this month, the UPPCL announced that it will provide uninterrupted power during the course of the 45-day Mahakumbh. The UPPCL has also released the roadmap of the preparations it is making for this humongous task. It stated that the preparation will include massive infrastructure upgradation, including the construction of 182 km of HT lines and 1,405 km of LT lines.
