After the completion of the doubling work between Pratapgarh and Gaura railway stations, the next phase of the project—extending the double track up to Janghai—has now begun. The Railway Department aims to finish this segment by the end of November.
The doubling project between Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh Junction and Jangiha has been divided into three phases. The first phase, from Pratapgarh to Gaura (already completed), is now operational with train services running smoothly on the new double line.
The final phase, covering the stretch from Gaura to Jangiha—spanning approximately 27 kilometers—is currently under construction. This stretch marks the remaining portion of the Lucknow-Varanasi route that’s yet to be doubled.
During a recent inspection, DRM SM Sharma instructed the team to expedite the remaining work. According to Senior Section Engineer Ajay Anand, the pace of construction is steady, and the target is to finish the 27 km double track by November 2025.
Once completed, the project will significantly enhance train operations, especially for the two dozen trains that run through Pratapgarh Junction. It will also improve train speed and scheduling efficiency across the route.
