Buyers of electric vehicles (EVs) in Uttar Pradesh will once again receive a 100 per cent exemption on road tax and registration fees. The Transport Department has updated the vehicle registration portal after a gap of nearly 20 days, ensuring that EV purchases made until October 13, 2027, will continue to receive the benefits under the state’s Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy 2022.

During the intervening period from October 13 to November 6, buyers who purchased EVs had been charged road tax and registration fees. These consumers can now apply at their respective ARTO offices for refunds, the department has clarified.

The Industrial Development Department had issued an order on October 17 to extend the financial incentives for two more years. Following this, the Transport Department has now formally issued its own directive and made the necessary system changes to restore the exemption.

Under the earlier temporary glitch, EV buyers across the state were being charged 9 per cent road tax on vehicles priced up to Rs 10 lakh, and 11 per cent on vehicles above Rs 10 lakh. Registration fees of Rs 300 for two-wheelers and Rs 600 for four-wheelers were also being collected.
