The Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Council announced on Saturday that all private and government schools up to Class 8 will remain closed until June 30 across the state due to extreme heat and heatwave conditions. During this period, teachers, Shikshamitras, instructors, and non-teaching staff are required to be present at school to carry out academic, administrative, and other assigned duties.
According to an official circular issued by the Board, students are not required to attend school for academic activities until the end of June due to the severe heat. Regular classes will resume on July 1, 2025.
Initially, the summer break was scheduled from May 20 to June 15, according to the Board’s order dated December 26, 2024.
“Please refer to Council Letter No. B.S.P./15520-693/2024-25 dated 26.12.2024 regarding the above subject, which declares summer vacation from 20.05.2025 to 15.06.2025 for schools/recognized institutions under the control of the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Council. In view of the ongoing extreme heat and heatwave conditions, students will not attend school for academic activities until 30.06.2025. Regular attendance for students will resume from 01.07.2025. From 16.06.2025, schools will operate according to the schedule prescribed in Letter No. B.S.P./15520-693/2024-25 dated 26.12.2024. During this period, teachers, Shikshamitras, instructors, and non-teaching staff are required to be present at school to carry out academic, administrative, and other assigned duties. For recognized schools, the School Management Committee is authorised to make necessary decisions in this regard,” letter reads.

The management committees of recognised private schools have been authorised to take appropriate decisions in view of the prevailing weather conditions. District Basic Education Officers have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the directive.
Uttar Pradesh Weather Update
Uttar Pradesh continued to reel under an intense heatwave, with the capital city Lucknow recording its hottest day of the season on Thursday at 44°C.
Orai and Banda emerged as the hottest locations in the state, each recording a temperature of 44.8°C, followed closely by Jhansi at 44.7°C. Agra and Kanpur also saw scorching temperatures of 44.6°C, while Varanasi and Prayagraj recorded 44°C.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for several districts, including Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Aligarh, Mathura, Hathras, Agra, Jhansi, Firozabad, Etawah, Auraiya, and Jalaun.

According to the IMD, some relief may be expected in western Uttar Pradesh after Saturday, as rainfall activity is likely to increase in eastern parts of the state and gradually move westward.
"There will be a respite from scorching heat from June 15 onwards in most parts of the state,” said a senior scientist at Lucknow IMD Atul Kumar Singh.
