UP SIR: SP Urges EC For At-Home Hearings For Elderly And Disabled Facing ‘No Mapping’ Errors

SP State President Shyam Lal Pal has submitted a memorandum to Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa, demanding the facility of at-home hearings for elderly, disabled, and ill voters with 'no mapping' and 'logical errors'. Instructions from the Election Commission of India have also been cited for this purpose. The memorandum, submitted on behalf of the state president by party leaders KK Srivastava, Dr Harishchandra Singh and Radheshyam Singh, states that in the state, notices for hearings are being issued to 10.4 million voters with 'no-mapping' and 22.2 million with 'logical errors'.

Hardships Faced By Elderly And Disabled Citizens

These include a large number of elderly people aged 80 and above, as well as disabled and ill voters. The facility of an at-home hearing would spare these voters the inconvenience of having to travel 10-15 kilometres to reach the hearing venue. The memorandum stated that on Wednesday, many elderly people and others were called to the hearing venue and faced hardship.

ECI Guidelines And Precedents In Other States

Under the Commission's instructions, the facility of at-home hearings is also being provided in other states, including West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
