The SIT, investigating the death of a student preparing for NEET in a girls' hostel in the Chitragupt Nagar police station area, has reached the shop from where the sleeping pills were purchased. Using the batch number on the medicine, the SIT first identified the distributor. Prior to this, the police had examined the student's travel history and narrowed the scope of the investigation. Within this area, it was determined which medical stores in Patna and Jehanabad were supplied with that batch of sleeping pills. A separate team was formed for this purpose.

Eventually, the SIT arrived at a medical store in Jehanabad and enquired about the medicine. The police showed the chemist some photographs, and the shopkeeper identified one person as the buyer. They told the SIT that on December 27, six strips of the medicine from that same batch were purchased from their shop, and a payment of Rs 370 was made online via a scanned code. The mystery of how the medicine reached the student is also close to being solved. There is one more link in the chain which is being investigated.

Unanswered Questions And Digital Evidence

However, the question of why she took the medicine remains unanswered. Was she afraid of someone, a victim of blackmail, or something else? The police have not yet been able to provide an answer. On January 13, police stated that her mobile phone's Google search history had been checked. It revealed searches related to suicide and sleeping pills were made on December 24 and January 5.

Travel History And Critical Timeline Analysis

The student had travelled from Patna to Jehanabad on December 27 and returned to the hostel in Patna on January 5. She travelled from Patna to Jehanabad with her family in a Scorpio and returned by train on January 5. Meanwhile, police discovered that the sleeping pills from that batch number had been purchased in Jehanabad on December 27. The day after her return to Patna on January 5, she was found unconscious in her hostel room.

She was treated at a private hospital from January 6 to January 10. Then, on January 8, a dose of sleeping medication was detected in the victim's urine test. This raises the question as to why searches for 'suicide' and 'sleeping pills' were made two days before she went home and on the very day she returned to the hostel. In addition to Patna, the police investigation has now started to focus on Jehanabad. The investigation into the period between December 24 and January 5 is considered the most crucial element.

Forensic Examination and Hospital Inquiries

For technical analysis, footage and other information, the police have questioned the driver of the Scorpio. Police had also claimed that cameras were installed in the hostel. They reviewed the CCTV footage, but no suspicious activity was observed outside the student's room. The police have also recovered the student's mobile phone. The mobile phone has been sent for forensic examination so that any deleted information can be identified and recovered. The SIT has visited the scene of the incident at the hostel three to four times as part of the investigation.

After examining the medicine and travel history, police are gathering information about when, in what condition, and to which hospital she was admitted between January 6 and January 10. They are also investigating the treatment she received, the medications administered, and which doctors and staff were overseeing her care. Details are also being gathered regarding who informed the police, when they were informed, and how long this was after her arrival at the hospital. Sources indicate that the police have found a notebook or diary. It contains several entries, including some mentions of a close acquaintance, which are now under the SIT's scrutiny.

January 11: Based on doctors' statements, police said sexual assault was not confirmed.

January 12: A post-mortem was conducted at Patna Medical College and Hospital after the formation of a medical board.

January 12: Protests held with the body at Kargil Chowk; an FIR was registered in the case.

January 15: Police shared details that emerged from the post-mortem report.

January 15: Police arrested the owner of the girls' hostel building.

January 16: Home Minister Samrat Choudhary also took cognisance of the matter.

January 16: It was announced that an SIT had been formed on the orders of the DGP.

January 17: The SIT, including the ADG, Range IG and SSP, visited the scene of the incident.
