UP News: The electricity department has introduced a prepaid system in smart meters installed in homes, allowing consumers to recharge their meters before using electricity. In the Gajraula zone, around 74,000 smart meters have been installed, and the recharge system will start from September.

UP Smart Meters: Here’s How It Will Work

Consumers will recharge their meters using their mobile phones, and only then will the electricity supply be activated. This move aims to reduce electricity theft, delayed bills, and other issues. The smart meters will also help eliminate complaints of excessive billing or high readings.

1.1 Million Consumers To Get Smart Meters In Gajraula Zone

The Gajraula zone covers 12 divisions across Amroha and Bijnor districts, with approximately 1.1 million consumers expected to get smart meters. So far, 74,000 smart meters have been installed, and the prepaid system is being implemented in phases.
