Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a leader in electric vehicle (EV) adoption, surpassing Delhi and Maharashtra in the number of registered EVs. The state currently boasts over 4.14 lakh electric vehicles, compared to 1.83 lakh in Delhi and 1.79 lakh in Maharashtra. The rising popularity of EVs is also evident at major tourist destinations across the state, contributing to Uttar Pradesh capturing an 85 percent share in EV sales within the region.

To support this growing demand, the state government has announced plans to establish more than 300 new EV charging stations across 16 urban local bodies, with the highest number of stations set to be installed in Ayodhya.

Uttar Pradesh has benefited significantly from the Central Government’s FAME I and II schemes (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India), accelerating the adoption of electric mobility.

In line with this, the state government is actively implementing the new Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy launched in 2022, aimed at promoting rapid EV adoption and strengthening the charging infrastructure.

With ambitious plans to transform Uttar Pradesh into a global hub for EV and battery manufacturing, the government is attracting investments worth Rs 30,000 crore, which are expected to generate around 10 lakh jobs.

Currently, India has approximately 33,000 EV chargers nationwide, with 35 per cent classified as fast chargers. Given the rising demand for electric vehicles, Uttar Pradesh is focusing on increasing the number of fast charging stations and upgrading existing facilities to meet the needs of EV users.
