The North Eastern Railway headquarters in Gorakhpur announced proposals for a new train service connecting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar to several cities in Purvanchal (east Uttar Pradesh). The proposed weekly train service, numbered 15067/15068, will directly link Gorakhpur to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, with further plans to extend the service to Srinagar upon the completion of a new railway line currently under construction.
The Railway administration also initiated plans for new daily and weekly trains across 14 routes, including the aforementioned destination and a new weekly train, numbered 15023/15024, connecting Gorakhpur with Haridwar or Dehradun. In addition, proposals are in place for a new train service from Gorakhpur to Margao in Goa, catering to the growing number of pilgrims travelling to Ujjain and Goa for pilgrimage to Mahakaleshwar Temple.
A new MEMU train from Varanasi to Dohrighat is also proposed with routes and timetable still to be finalised after the Indian Railway Time Table Committee meeting scheduled from April 10 to 12 in Jaipur. After the approval at the meeting, this train services will begin boosting connectivity in the region.

Currently, Purvanchal has no direct train service to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Kashmir, with the only existing connection being the Amarnath Express number 12587, which operates from Gorakhpur to Jammu Tawi on Mondays.
Other trains are available but originate from Bhagalpur and other stations, with limited services from Gorakhpur to Dehradun on Wednesdays and Fridays, and one service extending to Muzaffarpur via Gorakhpur on Mondays.
The demand for direct trains to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Dehradun, Haridwar and Goa has been on the rise, highlighting the need for better rail infrastructure to meet the needs of the region’s travellers following which the decision to extend this train services have been announced.
