UP Weather: The monsoon, which arrived early in Uttar Pradesh, has weakened. Although it is still raining in some districts, many areas are witnessing only sporadic showers. The primary reason behind this uneven rainfall is a low-pressure area that had formed over Madhya Pradesh. Since the onset of the monsoon, this system continuously drew moist air passing through UP towards itself. However, it has now weakened, leading to a shift in rainfall patterns.

In light of this, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rain accompanied by lightning across 73 districts on Wednesday.

An orange alert has been issued for very heavy rainfall in Saharanpur, Bijnor, Moradabad, and nearby areas. A yellow alert for heavy rainfall has also been announced for Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Meerut, Amroha, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Jalaun, Jhansi, and Lalitpur.

In the past 24 hours, no district recorded extremely heavy rainfall. The highest rainfall was observed in Bareilly (54 mm), followed by Bilaspur in Rampur (35.6 mm), Purwali in Mainpuri (35 mm), Kannauj (32.5 mm), and Gorakhpur (32.4 mm).

The monsoon has temporarily weakened across Uttar Pradesh due to a low-pressure area centred over northern Madhya Pradesh. This system pulled moisture-laden winds towards Madhya Pradesh, resulting in reduced rainfall in several parts of UP.

As a result, districts bordering MP, especially Lalitpur, experienced heavy rainfall twice within the last three days, while other nearby districts also recorded significant rain.

According to Atul Kumar Singh, senior scientist at the Meteorological Centre in Amausi, this low-pressure system has now weakened. The monsoon is expected to become active again across the entire state from June 26, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall at many locations.
