A woman from Uttar Pradesh’s Mahesra accused her mother of selling her into a marriage with a man from Haryana for Rs 4 lakh, police said on Thursday. The 18-year-old woman claimed that she was married off to the man on November 23 at a function held at her house and was later assaulted and forced into illicit activities by him. 

The woman approached the police on Wednesday and lodged a complaint against her mother and the Haryana man. "The woman approached us on Wednesday and claimed she is a resident of Mahesra area under Chiluatal Police Station area and was sold to a man from Haryana and was married to him," Superintendent of Police (North) Manoj Awasthi said as quoted by news agency PTI.

Police said that the allegations are being looked into and the woman’s mother and other family members have dismissed them. They said that the woman’s two elder sisters are also married in Haryana. 

Chiluatal Police Station SHO Sanjay Mishra said that they are looking into all aspects of the case and further action will be taken accordingly.
