A woman has been arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar for allegedly killing her husband in his sleep, officials said. Police identified the accused as 30-year-old Kavita, who reportedly strangled her husband, 40-year-old Sanjay Kumar, after feeling neglected in favor of his first wife. The incident took place on August 29, and Kavita was taken into custody on Saturday.

According to Station House Officer Dinesh Chand Bhagel, the police were informed about the murder by Sanjay’s father, Bhopal Singh. During questioning, Kavita admitted to strangling her husband while he slept, claiming that he had been ignoring her because of his first wife. Sanjay and Kavita had been married since 2000, while his first wife resides in his native village, Tanda Majra.

In a separate incident, a woman was arrested on August 4, 2025, in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district for allegedly murdering her husband with the help of her partner and setting his body on fire, police said on Monday. The victim, 29-year-old Yousuf, was reportedly stabbed in the stomach, doused with acid, and then burned to conceal his identity. His charred remains were later found near a brick kiln. Yousuf’s family had filed a missing person complaint at Chharra police station in Aligarh on August 2, reporting that he had been missing since that morning.

During the investigation, police discovered that Yousuf’s wife, Tabassum (29), was involved in an extramarital affair with a 27-year-old man named Danish. Authorities are now searching for Danish and other family members suspected of being involved in the murder. Circle Officer Dhanajay of Chharra stated that the police are actively pursuing all leads to bring the accused to justice.
