A man identified as Durvas Darshan Patil has been arrested in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri for allegedly murdering his partner, Bhakti Jitendra Mayekar, and dumping her body in a ditch, police said on Saturday. The arrest came two weeks after Mayekar, 26, went missing on August 17, when she told her family she was going to meet a friend.
According to an NDTV report, police said they traced Mayekar’s location near the Khandala area using her mobile phone. Their probe soon led them to Patil, who was taken in for questioning.

During interrogation, Patil confessed to murdering Mayekar and admitted that he dumped her body in Amba Ghat. He reportedly told police that constant arguments over his planned marriage to another woman drove him to the crime. The police later recovered Mayekar’s body and arrested Patil along with his two aides, Vishwas Vijay Pawar and Sushant Shantaram Naralkar.
In a separate incident, a 24-year-old man, identified as Pratik Waghe from Moregaon, was brutally assaulted and killed in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, police said on Tuesday. The attack was allegedly carried out by a woman’s boyfriend and his associates after Waghe sent her a message on a social networking platform. The incident, which occurred around 11:30 pm on Sunday near Moregaon Lake, was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media, triggering outrage and tension in the Nalasopara (East) area.
To prevent any law-and-order issues, additional police forces were deployed in the locality. Seven people, including the woman’s boyfriend Bhushan Patil, have been arrested in connection with the murder. Police said the group confronted Waghe before launching the fatal assault, which has drawn sharp public condemnation and raised concerns about rising violent crimes in the region.
