The Police have detained three accused for putting a QR code linked to a pornographic channel on Telegram near the feet of a Ganesh idol at a pandal in Maharashtra's Washim. The accused were taken into custody after being identified using CCTV cameras.
According to the cops, the members of the Jai Bhawani Ganesh Utsav Mandal in the Kale File area of Washim city spotted a QR code near the idol on September 18.
They scanned the QR code, which redirected them to a Telegram channel containing pornographic content. The members of the committee reported it to the police, which started an investigation into the matter.
The police team examined the CCTV footage and found that on September 17, three suspicious men had arrived near the pandal on two bikes.
One of them approached the Ganesh idol and placed the QR code. Moments later, the second man arrived at the pandal to check the code.

All of them left on their bikes thereafter. The matter reached the Washim SP and a complaint was filed. The cops examined the nearby CCTV areas to identify the accused. They have been identified as Yugandar Afune, Tanmay Mudhal and Subodh, all aged 19 and 20.
What did the men tell police?
The cops grilled three men, who, according to SDPO Rameshwar Pawar, told them that they placed the QR code to make money.
They told the cops that each time someone scanned the QR code and got redirected to the Telegram channel, they got Rs 10 to Rs 15. They told the investigators that similar QR codes were also placed outside a Hanuman temple and a college in Washim city.
The accused were presented before the court and were sent to police custody.
