An attempt was made to strangle a woman with a belt after her in-laws' demands for Rs 2 lakh and a motorcycle were not met. The victim was assaulted, stripped of all her jewelry, and thrown out of her marital home. She has been living at her maternal home since September 2025. Acting on her complaint, the Women's Police Station has registered a case against four accused, including her husband.
Marriage And Initial Harassment
Kashish Khan, a resident of Bijanagar Colony in the city, stated that she was married on October 16, 2024, to Mahfooz, a resident of Mohalla Samadnagar (behind Chandel Petrol Pump). Her family had given dowry according to their capacity during the wedding. However, when she reached her matrimonial home, her husband, mother-in-law Shakila, brother-in-law Shanu, and sister-in-law Ruksana began taunting her for bringing insufficient dowry.
Assault And Attempted Murder
The accused started demanding Rs 2 lakh in cash and a motorcycle. When the demands were not met, they began physically assaulting her. On the night of January 15, 2025, around 12:00 am, her husband, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law assaulted her. They also allegedly attempted to kill her by tightening a belt around her neck.
They snatched all her jewelry and threw her out of the house. She called her parents, who took her back to her maternal home in Kanshiram Colony, Hamirpur Chungi. After she informed the police, her husband took her back home under pressure, but their behavior did not change, and they continued to abuse and assault her.

Police Action
On September 11, 2025, they beat her again and expelled her from the house. She has been residing at her maternal home since then. The victim alleges that her husband has threatened to remarry and kill her.
The victim filed a complaint at the Women's Police Station. SHO Nikita Shukla stated that a case has been registered against the accused, and further action will be taken following an investigation.
