1978 Sambhal Riots Case: Hours after several media reports claimed that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aadityanath has ordered a fresh probe into the 1978 Sambhal riots case, Sambhal SP KK Bishnoi refuted all such claims calling the information "misleading".

"A misleading information was being spread on social media and other places that the communal riots that happened in 1978 in Sambhal, are being investigated. No such thing is happening," he said.

He further said that "MLC Shreesh Chandra Sharma had submitted a letter under Rule 115 on December 17, requesting details regarding the 1978 riots. Consequently, the government had sought information on the matter."

The relevant information is being compiled, and it will be sent to the government once the process is complete, he said.

Earlier it was reported that an Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) has been appointed to lead the investigation. The Superintendent of Police (SP) has also received a letter regarding the same.

A report by IANS said that the SP has also written to the District Magistrate (DM), requesting the designation of an administrative officer for a collaborative investigation.

The communal unrest sparked by the 1978 riots in Sambhal reportedly resulted in large-scale violence, arson, and the displacement of numerous Hindu families. Survivors claim that many Hindus lost their lives in the riots, prompting them to flee the region.
