The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to appoint the chief secretary as the chairman of the five private companies to which the two discoms, including Purvanchal and Dakshinchal of the Power Corporation, will be handed over. The Power Corporation also held a high-level meeting on Saturday to discuss the important aspects of privatisation.
Power Corporation clarified that the chief secretary was appointed as the chairman of the five companies to improve the functioning of energy supply. It was further added that the appointment of the chief secretary as the chairman of the companies will ensure that the rights of officials, workers, farmers, and customers are protected. The corporation emphasised that there will be a transparent and competitive bidding process for the companies interested in the auction.
It was added that the private companies will not be given ownership of the lands, and they will only use the land for the power distribution activities. The companies would not be able to use the land for other commercial uses, including shopping malls and shops.
The corporation also took suggestions from Managing directors, directors, and chief engineers of all five Discoms of the corporation in the meeting held on Saturday. It was stated that the corporation took suggestions from the officials and other employees from several districts. Apart from a few doubts over job security, most of the employees supported the idea of the latest reforms.

Dissatisfaction among employees
The power corporation employees in Aligarh warned the government of a massive protest throughout the state if the government decided to privatise the energy distribution. They stated that Power Corporation chief Ashsih Goyal has been saying that power corporation was under loss and it's further operation under the government was not financially feasible. The employees also said that they the government must clear all the doubts before taking any major steps.
However, Corporation chief Goyal clarified that the employees did not need to worry about their jobs as the government has made it clear that there will be no layoffs in the event of any changes in the policy. He stated that it will be mandatory for the private companies to take services from the current employees, and they will receive all the facilities they were receiving now.
