The state's first Ayush University, Mahayogi Guru GorakhnathAyush University, is making headlines after hosting its first international seminar. Held on the campus on September 7 and 8, the seminar was attended by many distinguished guests and research scholars from India and abroad. This university is a dream project of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and has been achieving new milestones in terms of facilities since its establishment.
After celebrating its fourth Foundation Day on August 28, 2025, the university's OPD (Out-Patient Department), which used to see only 26 patients on its first day, now treats over 1,000 patients daily, which is a great encouragement for the doctors.
Built at a cost of approximately Rs 268 crore in Pipri, Bhathat (Gorakhpur), the university has given the region a new national identity. It was inaugurated on July 1, 2025, by President DroupadiMurmu, while its foundation stone was laid on August 28, 2021, by the then-President Ramnath Kovind, in the presence of Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
A Hub For Traditional Medicine
The university's OPD was inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on February 1, 2023. The rising number of patients since then shows the growing trust of the people in the Ayurveda system of medicine. Currently, 98 Ayush colleges (76 Ayurveda, 10 Unani, 12 Homeopathy) in the state are affiliated with this university, where around 7,000 students are pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
The university's OPD currently has a team of six Ayurveda doctors, three homeopathic doctors, and one Unani doctor. In addition, two Ayurvedic surgeons (one female and one male) are also treating patients. A special Panchakarma therapy facility, run by doctors trained in Kerala, has also been started.

In-House Medicine Production
The university has now also entered the field of medicine manufacturing. After receiving the license, artisans have started producing medicines. Currently, herbal powders like Ashwagandha, Triphala, and Amalaki are being prepared in the pharmacy, and a separate location will soon be selected for large-scale production.
Future Plans And Campus Life
As per future plans, the process of appointing a Gynaecologist and Allopathic doctors will be completed soon. The university's OPD remains open even on holidays, while on other working days, it runs in two shifts from 8 am to 2 pm and 2 pm to 8 pm. The lush green campus is home to more than 5,000 medicinal plants. In the coming time, a 100-bed IPD (In-Patient Department) and Panchakarma therapy will be made available in modern cottages equipped with all facilities.
Just this Monday, the university's Clinical Ethical Committee received recognition from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI), which is a major achievement. Along with improving the medicine distribution facility for patients, the construction of an auditorium is also progressing rapidly.
