Construction of the 594-kilometre-long Ganga Expressway, the longest expressway in Uttar Pradesh, is in its final stages, with the main carriageway now complete. Authorities are currently installing boundary walls and metal beam crash barriers along a 295-kilometre stretch to enhance commuter safety before operations begin.

Once opened, the expressway will significantly ease travel between Meerut and Prayagraj, offering a high-speed corridor with a maximum speed limit of 120 kmph for light vehicles. Heavy vehicles will be permitted to travel at up to 80 kmph.

Officials said the expressway has been designed with multiple safety and smart features. Raised pavement markings will alert drivers through vibrations if vehicles drift out of lanes. Surveillance cameras installed at regular intervals will monitor traffic movement to ensure security along the entire stretch.

The project will also feature an Automatic Number Plate Reader (ANPR) system, enabling seamless toll collection. The system will automatically scan vehicle registration numbers and deduct toll charges based on the exit point, eliminating the need for traditional boom barriers at toll plazas.

The expressway begins at Bijauli village on the Meerut-Bulandshahr highway. Land acquisition is underway nearby for the development of a 529-acre industrial area as part of the broader project plan.

A bow-shaped toll plaza has been constructed in Badaun district, around 146 kilometres from Meerut, and a total of four toll plazas are planned up to Prayagraj. Advanced suspension structures are also being installed on the railway overbridge at Simbhaoli between Meerut and Garhmukteshwar.

To prevent soil erosion, coconut fibre mats are being laid along embankments and grass is being planted on the sides of the expressway. Service roads have been developed along major portions of the corridor, especially between Meerut and Badaun, improving connectivity for over 100 villages located along the route.

Officials claim that once a vehicle enters the expressway, continuous monitoring will remain in place until it exits, ensuring both safety and efficient traffic management. The Ganga Expressway is expected to open for traffic soon, promising faster connectivity and economic growth across the region.
