To facilitate passengers during the Diwali and Chhath festivals, the Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation is set to operate 3,000 additional buses across the state. The bus services will commence from Dhanteras on October 18 and will continue until the end of the Chhath festival.
According to officials, extra trips will be operated from all regions to ensure passengers reach their destinations smoothly. The highest number of buses from Lucknow will operate to Delhi, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, and Prayagraj, among other places. Buses will also operate on main inter-state routes and local district routes to facilitate travel for those returning home from other states.
The corporation, which currently has 13,712 buses in its fleet, has instructed all 20 regional offices to ensure smooth operations during the festival period. A comprehensive plan is being prepared, including arrangements for station cleaning, drinking water, seating, and other passenger amenities. Help centres will be set up at major bus stations, and digital timetables for departures have already been installed.
Officials have also directed that buses be dispatched promptly on any route witnessing high passenger demand. Each region must keep 10 per cent of its buses in reserve to address sudden surges in travel.
