A man shot his wife dead in front of their 11-year-old daughter after the couple argued over a passport in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The police are now searching for the accused husband, Vikas, who is on the run. Both Vikas and his wife, Ruby, are registered as gangsters.
According to the NDTV report, the incident took place in the morning when an argument over a passport between the gangster couple, Vikas and Ruby, escalated. During the confrontation, Vikas shot Ruby, killing her instantly, and then fled the scene. At the time, their 11-year-old daughter was at home, while the couple’s other child was at school. When the police arrived and rushed Ruby to the hospital, she was already dead.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the couple had moved to the high-rise Ajnara Integrity society a year ago, residing on the ninth floor of F Tower. Neighbors and police noted that Vikas and Ruby frequently fought. Vikas often stayed away from home for months and was unemployed, which contributed to repeated disputes.
Ruby came from a troubled background, her brother was murdered in 2019, and she had multiple criminal cases pending, resulting in her being registered as a gangster at Modinagar police station in 2020. Vikas, originally from Meerut, also had a gangster record in Modinagar.
The police have sent Ruby’s body for post-mortem and are actively searching for Vikas.
In a separate incident, a man was arrested in Jharkhand's Hazaribag district for allegedly murdering his newly married wife and making it appear as a road accident to claim insurance money, police said. Mukesh Kumar Mehta, 30, is accused of killing his 23-year-old wife, Sevanti Kumari, whom he had married four months earlier, on the night of October 9.
Passersby reported seeing a couple injured along the Padama-Itkhori stretch of NH-33. Sevanti was declared dead at Sadar Hospital, while Mukesh, who had only minor injuries, pretended to be unconscious.

Suspicions arose when locals noticed Mukesh’s strange behavior during the last rites and discovered he had applied for a Rs 30 lakh accident insurance claim. During police questioning, he confessed to beating Sevanti with helmets, strangling her, and staging the scene by damaging the bike and lying on the road to make it look like an accident. Authorities noted that the bike had no real accident damage, and Mukesh’s injuries were superficial. He was arrested and sent to judicial custody on Monday evening.
