Uttar Pradesh News: To reduce the risk of road accidents during the foggy winter season, the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has fixed maximum speed limits on all expressways across the state. Vehicles found exceeding prescribed speed limits will be fined through the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS).
The UPEIDA has also introduced a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for vehicular movement on expressways during the fog season. The SOP will remain in force from December 19 to February 15.
As a part of measures to prevent loss of life and property, security and monitoring teams will be deployed on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, and Gorakhpur Link Expressway.
Check New Speed Limit On Expressways In Uttar Pradesh
- Under the new guidelines, the maximum speed limit for cars and eight-seater vehicles on expressways has been set at 80 kmph between 8 AM and 8 PM, and 60 kmph from 8 PM to 8 AM, Jagran.com reported.
- The maximum speed limit for vehicles with nine or more seats on expressways has been reduced to 60 kmph during daytime hours (8 AM to 8 PM). At night, from 8 PM to 8 AM, the speed limit for these vehicles will be 50 kmph. Earlier, the speed limit was 100 kmph for these vehicles.
- Freight vehicles will now be allowed to travel at a maximum speed of 50 kmph from 8 AM to 8 PM, and 40 kmph from 8 PM to 8 AM. Previously, the speed limit for freight vehicles was 80 kmph.
Vehicles found exceeding these speed limits will be penalised through the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS).

According to a Jagran.com report, security and monitoring teams will assemble vehicles at toll plazas, convenience centres, hotels, restaurants and petrol pumps along the expressways when visibility drops below 50 metres, and allow them to proceed in organised convoys.
The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has directed officials to issue fog warnings at all toll plazas and to install speed limit signage at key locations along the expressways. Additionally, 24-hour surveillance along with regular patrolling, deployment of ambulances, and installation of reflectors, fog lights and blinkers at all entry and exit points has been ordered, the report added.
