Uttar Pradesh News: A 60-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his sons during a property dispute in Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place in the Karari area on Friday night. According to police, the victim, Durga Prasad, had decided to transfer a piece of land to his daughter-in-law. When he refused to give a share to his sons Virendra and Vimlesh, they allegedly attacked him with sticks.
Durga Prasad’s elder son, Gyan, who tried to stop the assault, was also injured. The victim was taken to the district hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Gyan was later referred to SRN Hospital in Prayagraj.
A case has been registered based on a complaint by Durga Prasad’s wife. The accused are absconding, police said.
In separate news, a couple from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested for fabricating the husband’s death to claim Rs 25 lakh from an insurance company. Police identified the accused as Ravi Shankar and his wife Kesh Kumari, who allegedly forged a death certificate and supporting documents to show that Shankar had died in April 2023.
According to police, Aviva India had issued a life insurance policy worth Rs 25 lakh to Shankar in December 2012. On April 21, 2023, Kumari filed a claim asserting that her husband had died on April 9. Based on the submitted papers, the insurer approved and transferred the payout.
However, during a subsequent verification process, it was discovered that Shankar was still alive. A complaint was filed by Sandeep Wadkur, leading to a police investigation. The couple, who had been evading arrest, were finally caught and confessed to orchestrating the fraud.
