A police constable in Uttar Pradesh's Noida was suspended after a video showing him allegedly soliciting a bribe from the family members of a jailed man leaked on social media, officials said on Tuesday.

Constable Mukesh Rathore, assigned to Noida's Sector 20 police station, was allegedly heard on the video seeking 20,000 to settle the case.

Harish Chander, Deputy Commissioner of Police, said, "The constable has been suspended with immediate effect. An internal inquiry under the supervision of the assistant commissioner of police (Noida 1) has been initiated."

The jailed man identified as Saurabh Chauhan (25) was booked for allegedly abducting a 24-year-old woman, according to his family members.

A missing complaint was filed by the woman's family on August 2 at the Sector 20 police station, Noida. However, the missing woman returned home on August 8.

Reportedly couples, Chauhan and the woman went on a vacation without informing her family. The cops apprehended both of them, upon their return. While the woman was released, Chauhan was kept under arrest, claimed a family member of the accused.

They also alleged that the police kept him in custody illegally, even after the woman's family withdrew the case later.

However, the police claimed, "There was a fight between the woman's father and Chauhan at the police station after which, taking preventive action, Chauhan was booked under CrPC section 151 and sent to jail after being produced before a magistrate."
