Varanasi Ropeway Update: In a major update, the first phase of the country’s first urban ropeway project in Varanasi is in the final stages and is expected to be completed by December 2025. The urban ropeway transport project will benefit lakhs of people daily by providing relief from traffic congestion. The government and administration are continuously working to complete the construction work soon. The survey work of the second phase of the ropeway project has also been completed.
Details About The Varanasi Ropeway Project
Under the Varanasi ropeway project, 148 cable cars will operate simultaneously from the Cantt Station to Namo Ghat. On the way, stations will be built at Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi City Railway Station, Doshipura, Golgadda and Namo Ghat. A footover bridge will be constructed to directly link Namo Ghat to Kashi Railway Station.
The technology of mono-cable detachable is used in the ropeway project. The whole stretch will be 3.5 km in length, connecting five ropeway stations with a capacity of 3,000 passengers per day. The whole journey will be completed in 16 minutes.
The work on the ropeway project started in May 2023 and is expected to be completed in December 2025.

Survey Work Completed For The Second Phase
The National Highway Logistics Management Limited (NHLML) has completed the construction work of the second phase. A detailed report has been prepared and submitted to the Delhi headquarters. After the approval of the work plan, a consultant will be appointed to decide the cost, route and carry out the work of the second phase.
