The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) on Wednesday cleared 4.6 hectares (46,000 sq m) of encroached land in the Dankaur area under Sadar tehsil. Illegal structures erected on the land were demolished using JCB machines.

The freed land, valued at around Rs 230 crore, is earmarked for 7 per cent residential plot allotments to farmers affected by the upcoming interchange linking the Eastern Peripheral Expressway with the Yamuna Expressway, as well as for other development projects.

YEIDA officials said that large-scale illegal construction has been taking place on notified land across the Authority area, with private colonisers developing unauthorised colonies and individuals building illegally. Encroachments have been reported from Dankaur to Jhajhar in Bulandshahr, Rabupura, Jahangirpur and Jewar in Gautam Buddh Nagar, Tappal in Aligarh, and parts of Mathura, obstructing ongoing and planned development works.

Under the supervision of OSD Shailendra Singh, teams from YEIDA and the local police carried out the demolition drive on Wednesday, razing all unauthorised structures on Authority and government land in Dankaur. The presence of police personnel ensured that the operation faced no resistance.
