The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) plans to establish skill development centres in 96 villages included in the first phase of its Master Plan 1. These centres will provide employment-oriented training to local youth, preparing them for jobs in industries to be set up in the authority area.

Industrial units within the YEIDA's jurisdiction will be responsible for the training, ensuring it meets the specific needs of the industries. Young individuals will be selected for training based on criteria outlined in Map 11, which includes details about local farmers, their land and the status of land acquisition.

In total, 1,149 villages from the districts of Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Hathras, Mathura and Agra are notified under the Yamuna Authority. However, in the first phase, only 171 villages from Gautam Buddha Nagar and Bulandshahr are included in the master plan, with land acquisition completed in 96 of these villages.

Farmer organisations have been advocating for employment opportunities for local youth affected by land acquisition. In response, the YEIDA implemented a rule that mandates 40 per cent reservation for local youth in jobs created by industries established on acquired land. This rule is a condition in the lease deeds of plots allocated to companies for setting up industrial units. However, the key challenge remains preparing local youth to meet the employment criteria.

YEIDA CEO Arunvir Singh confirmed that the skill development centres will be operational in all 96 villages. Training at these centres will be tailored to the needs of the industries, making local youth employable and better prepared for available opportunities.
