The admission process for the BEd 2025-26 session in Uttarakhand remains stalled nearly a month after the entrance examination, leaving thousands of students uncertain about their future. Despite the declaration of results on September 26, counselling has yet to begin.

According to Dr Sunil Agarwal, President of the Private College Association, the delay is due to the apathy of the state government and universities. He said that while colleges affiliated with state universities were earlier allowed to admit eligible students as per NCTE guidelines, the government later issued an order on July 28 mandating an entrance examination for admissions.

Kumaun University was assigned responsibility for conducting the exam, which took place on September 14, with applications accepted until September 7. Though counselling was scheduled to begin on September 27, it has not commenced.

Dr Agarwal argued that there is no justification for further delays and that students who have passed the entrance exam should be granted direct admission to their preferred colleges. Citing a High Court order, he added that such students must be prioritised for admission, and only if seats remain vacant should others be considered.

He expressed concern that the prolonged delay, now stretching into late October, has driven many students to seek admission in other states or different courses. Criticising the inefficiency of the Samarth portal and the failure of the ‘one state, one admission’ scheme, he said, “Rules are meant for the benefit of students, but here, their future is being compromised.”

Dr Agarwal urged the state government and universities to immediately begin counselling to ensure that the BEd admission process is completed without further delay.
