Amitabh Thakur's Hunger Strike: Former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, currently lodged in the district jail in Deoria, appeared in court again on Friday. He stated that he has been on a hunger strike in jail since yesterday to press his demands. He said he will not end his hunger strike until his demands are met.

He explained that he has written a letter to the Chief Secretary through the jail superintendent, requesting CCTV footage. He has requested CCTV footage of his arrest at Shahjahanpur railway station, footage of him being held at the police station, and his call detail records (CDRs).

The former IPS alleged that the police are trying to protect the police personnel by withholding the information. He declared that he will not remain silent on this matter. Thakur said he will continue his fight from jail until he gets justice. He also stated that he is not being treated well in jail. He said the police are consistently mistreating him, and he has complained about this to the court.

What Thakur's Advocate Said

Meanwhile his lawyer Abhishek Sharma said, "I have come from Delhi to argue for Amitabh Ji’s bail. Amitabh Ji’s case has been under investigation since 1999, and so far, nothing substantial has been found. Today, before the Hon’ble CJM Court, we have submitted all the documents related to the case. The court has directed that the entire Investigation be monitored, and all documents collected during the investigation from 1999 until Now be presented in Court..."

What Is The Case Against Thakur?

Earlier, on December 10, Thakur was arrested in connection with an alleged fraud and forgery case related to the allotment of an industrial plot in Deoria district in 1999 and was later remanded to 14 days' judicial custody by a court.

According to the police, Thakur allegedly misused his position as the then superintendent of police (SP) of Deoria to facilitate the allotment of an industrial plot by the District Industries Centre (DIC) in the name of his wife, Nutan Thakur, using forged documents, false names and addresses. The plot was later sold for alleged monetary gain.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Lucknow West) Vishwajeet Shrivastava said the case was registered on the complaint of Sanjay Sharma, a resident of Rajajipuram in Lucknow, under the Tal Katora police station.
