A B.Pharma student suffering from severe mental distress died by suicide on Thursday after inflicting multiple stab wounds on himself in the Patel Nagar area. According to police, the young man had researched methods on YouTube to find the quickest way to die before taking the fatal step.
Patel Nagar Kotwali Inspector-in-charge, Chandrabhan Adhikari, reported that Anil Singh, a resident of Vidya Vihar Phase-II, was rushed to a hospital by his brother, Bhupendra Singh. Doctors at the hospital pronounced him dead on arrival. The police team observed that the deceased's body had approximately 20 deep knife wounds, and his hand had been completely severed.
According to his family, Anil had been battling a mental illness for the past two years and had stopped attending college. In the five days leading up to his death, his behavior had become increasingly erratic. He spoke constantly about "going to God" and wanting to end his life. In a display of his mental state, he had also written God's name on 10,000 pages of paper.

On Thursday, he acted on his intentions in the car park of his apartment building. The knife used in the incident was recovered and has been sealed by the police. The body has been sent to the mortuary for post-mortem examination. The deceased's father is an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) with the SSB, posted in Chhattisgarh. The family is originally from Pithoragarh.
