To ease traffic congestion on Mussoorie’s main road, the Lambidhar-Kimadi (LKD) road, an alternative route to the Queen of Hills, is being widened from a single lane to one-and-a-half lanes. However, officials say the project’s success depends on moving the Irrigation Department’s canal, located at Garhi Cantt Chowk, underground.

According to Rajesh Kumar, Executive Engineer of the PWD Provincial Division, while the LKD road technically begins from the Supply Area, the main access is a 1.5 km stretch alongside the canal.

This section is currently encroached upon and lined with temporary shops. Authorities have therefore decided to move the canal underground and widen this stretch to four lanes.

Officials warned that without this expansion, traffic congestion could worsen even after the LKD road is widened. A survey for the project has been initiated, and the report will soon be sent to senior officials for approval.
