The state and the All India Junior High School Teachers' Association are directly blaming the Central Government for the Supreme Court's decision to make the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) mandatory for all basic school teachers.

Subhash Chauhan, the National General Secretary of the All India Junior High School Teachers' Association, said that the Central Government is supposed to be the guardian of every person in the country, whether rich, poor, or a laborer. However, he accused the government of attacking the livelihood of lakhs of basic teachers by secretly changing the NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) law on August 10, 2017. This change made it compulsory for all teachers to pass the TET. The amendment also removed the old rule that exempted teachers hired before 2010 from the TET.

Association members Suresh Singh and Kuldeep Pandey said that the Central Government carried out this entire process so quietly that no one had any idea about it. They explained that the Supreme Court's decision, which came on September 1, 2025, is a direct result of this hidden amendment. The changed law had a condition that all teachers, regardless of their seniority, had to pass the TET by 2021. They allege that even after so much time has passed, this amendment was deliberately kept hidden so that basic teachers across the country could be fired later.

The association has announced that it will fight a legal battle to get this amended law cancelled. Members Yogesh Tyagi and Naresh Kaushik said that there is an urgent need for a massive protest by the lakhs of affected basic teachers across the country. They also said it is necessary to pressure the government to file a petition.

This decision will also impact Uttarakhand, where more than 10,000 basic teachers appointed before 2011 will now have to pass the TET.
