Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has initiated an underground cabling project in Rishikesh as part of its efforts to make the electricity distribution system more robust, transparent, and technologically advanced.

The project aims to reduce power outages caused by rain, storms, and other natural factors, while enhancing the visual appeal of the city along the Ganga banks and in major market areas. Underground cabling is expected to save both time and costs associated with maintenance.

UPCL MD Anil Yadav stated that the project, approved under the RDSS (Reform-Based Distribution Sector Scheme), also covers automation and SCADA work in Dehradun. The approval was granted during the 50th Monitoring Committee meeting organised by the Ministry of Power, Government of India.
