Commuters on both plains and hill routes will face a shortage of buses on the occasion of the State Foundation Day and Silver Jubilee. The shortage is due to a proposed programme for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which will be attended by a large number of party workers and the general public.
To facilitate transport for the event, 400 buses from the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation will be made available for service, with an additional 170 buses kept in reserve.
Various programmes are scheduled for November 8 and 9. Roadways General Manager (Operations), Kranti Singh, has issued orders to all divisions to provide buses by November 7.
Impact On Services
Fleet Availability: The transport corporation has a total of 1,385 buses (including 497 contracted buses). During the two-day programme, only 815 buses will be available to operate on various routes.
Route Challenges: The divisions will face challenges in managing bus operations. The Delhi route, which sees the highest traffic with 400 buses daily (100 of which run from Dehradun to Delhi), will be particularly affected.
Technical Checks: The technical department has been ordered to inspect all buses for any technical faults before they are made available, ensuring that drivers and conductors do not face difficulties.
Bus Shortage To Affect Dehradun City
The Dehradun division of the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation will provide the highest number of buses for the Silver Jubilee programme, totaling 230. School, college, and city buses will also be diverted for service over the two days. As a result, passengers in the city will face difficulties travelling to different destinations.
