The Uttarakhand Energy Corporation is set to provide relief on November's electricity bills. According to the rates approved by the Regulatory Commission, consumers will be given a total discount of Rs 13.44 crore under the Fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustment (FPPCA).

The relief will be provided at an average of Rs 0.11 per unit. Under the FPPCA system, electricity tariffs are reduced when power is purchased cheaply and increased when it is bought at a higher cost.

According to MR Arya, Director of Operations at the Energy Corporation, if the average cost of power purchase in a given month is lower than the rate approved by the commission, consumers are given relief through the FPPCA.

Conversely, if the cost increases, it is adjusted in subsequent bills. Relief has also been provided to consumers earlier this financial year, which included a discount of Rs 101 crore (Rs 0.89 per unit) on May bills and Rs 112 crore (Rs 0.81 per unit) on July bills.

It was stated that electricity demand is currently normal across the country, and power is being purchased from the market at low rates. Alongside this, the Energy Corporation is also working to ensure adequate availability for when demand increases in the coming months.
