Due to the heavy downpour in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand, rivers and streams are overflowing. The Alaknanda river, in particular, has become dangerously swollen, leading to flood-like conditions in the towns of Srinagar and Rudraprayag.

In Srinagar, the Alaknanda's water has reached the famous Dhari Devi temple complex and has also entered some shops located near the temple. A Water Police team has been deployed to the site to constantly warn people about the rising water. A little ahead of Dhari Devi, at a place called Paprasu, the river water has started touching the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway.

Additionally, water is being continuously released from the dam of the Srinagar hydroelectric project, which could make the situation worse. In response, the local administration is on full alert and has issued a warning to people living on the riverbanks.
