The Uttarakhand government has announced that 1,983 revenue villages will now come under the regular police system, in line with High Court directives and cabinet decisions. The move aims to strengthen law and order in rural and border areas, ensuring quicker crime control and improved access to justice.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said this historic step will enhance public safety and trust, create a clean and secure social environment, and make the police system more effective and accountable.

The decision is part of the state’s ongoing effort to abolish the revenue police system, which has been in place since pre-independence. In a phased approach, revenue villages are gradually being brought under the civil police.
Officials have revealed that approximately 4,200 villages will eventually come under the jurisdiction of the regular police, with plans to establish nine new police outposts and 44 police stations to support the initiative.
