The Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna (HNB) Garhwal Central University has announced a direct admission opportunity for students who could not appear for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). Admissions are now open for BA, MA, and other undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the university’s three campuses, nine aided non-governmental colleges, and 107 self-financed institutions.

The university has approximately 10,000 vacant seats across its campuses and affiliated colleges. Candidates can apply through the university’s Samarth portal by September 11.

In the first phase, admissions were based on CUET scores. The second phase allowed students who appeared for CUET but whose subject combinations did not match to apply. Despite these efforts, around 30 per cent of seats across various categories, including SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and General, remain unfilled.

The largest number of vacancies is in Dehradun colleges, including DAV, DBS, MKP, Shri Guru Ram Rai PG College, and MPG College Mussoorie, with around 3,000 undergraduate seats still available. DBS College alone has 645 vacant seats out of 1,182, while at MKP PG College, only 30 per cent of seats have been filled so far.

This move allows students from ordinary families to secure admission in courses like BA, BSc, and BCom at a lower fee. Admissions will now be based on a merit list, providing a valuable opportunity for those who missed CUET or could not secure a seat in the earlier phases.
