Uttarakhand Schools To Adopt Holistic Progress Card Under NEP 2020; 30% Curriculum Revamp Planned

Under the National Education Policy 2020, the Uttarakhand State Curriculum Framework has been prepared with a new model by the SCERT (State Council of Educational Research and Training). Two expert lecturers from the SCERT have already participated in the national training programme for north-eastern states in Ajmer. 

Preparations are now underway to implement it at the school level with a 30 per cent change to the curriculum for classes one to eight. In line with the National Education Policy 2020, the SCERT has taken a significant initiative towards making the state's education system more practical, student-centric, and skill-based.

Under the new model prepared for this, the curriculum will be partially changed and implemented in a phased manner for classes one to eight. In this model, the holistic assessment system has been made the primary basis. Under this, the 'Holistic Progress Card' will be adopted as an effective educational tool. 

State Coordinators Ravindarshan Topal and Vinay Thapliyal explained that the purpose of the Holistic Progress Card is not just to reflect examination results, but to assess a student's cognitive, affective, and psychomotor development. This 360-degree multidimensional assessment system highlights the student's individual potential and progress. 

The feature of the Holistic Progress Card is that, along with the teacher, the student, peers, and parents also participate in the assessment process. This system is inclusive and flexible, which schools can adapt according to their needs. 

In addition to traditional written examinations, alternative methods such as project work, group activities, role-playing, and portfolios have also been included. The Holistic Progress Card is divided into three sections, which include developmental goals and competencies, parents' feedback, and the student's portfolio.

Students' competencies will be assessed at three levels: beginner, progressive, and proficient. 

According to the SCERT, the success of the new curriculum framework will be based on universal capacity building, a conducive educational environment, teacher empowerment, and the participation of family and community. This strategic structure will provide a strong foundation for future education and ensure the holistic development of students.
