Days after a viral video showed a daughter-father duo getting married, it was revealed that the video was fake. The video, shared by an SP leader on social media, turned out to be scripted. It showed a 24-year woman claiming to challenge the norms surrounding father-daughter relationships. In the scripted video, the young woman can be seen introducing her father as her husband and claims they were married in a traditional ceremony at a temple.

In the video, the woman mentions, "This is my father, and we are happy after getting married." Standing beside her, her 50-year-old ‘father’ confirms their relationship and adds, “Yes, she is my daughter. So what is the problem in this?"

During this, a bystander asks if they feel any shame for marrying each other, to which the father responds dismissively, “In which era are you living? Why be ashamed?"

The video was shared on X, formally Twitter, by Jai Singh Yadav, who is a Samajwadi Party (SP) leader. The video garnered views in millions. Although the video is believed to date back to before 2020 (it was originally posted to TikTok which is banned in India now), it sparked fresh debates about legality, morality and societal norms.

The scripted video elicited strong reactions across social media. While some viewers dismissed it as a publicity stunt, others condemned it outright. One user highlighted the legal implications, noting that under the Hindu Marriage Code, such a union is considered incestuous and illegal, making the marriage invalid under Indian law. Another user, Paramjeet, commented, “Such people should be banned from all platforms."

Many viewers have labelled the video as fake.
